Radon Mitigation in Blocks of Flats

چکیده

The average indoor radon concentration in Finnish flats is 80 Bq/m3. Typically walls have been made using concrete elements. Building materials are the dominant source of indoor radon. However, in the flats of the lowest floor, with a floor slab in direct ground contact, the main source of radon is often the inflow of radon bearing soil air. The number of these ground contact flats is less than 10 % of the total number of flats. The average indoor radon concentration of these ground contact flats is 150 Bq/m3. Consequently in more than 10 % of these dwellings the concentration limit of 400 Bq/m3 is exceeded. The data presented is based on a nation-wide radon survey in 900 flats. Highest concentrations observed in flats have exceeded 10.000 Bq/m3.

Investigation of the Efficacy of Damp-Proof Montmorillonite Nanoclay for Radon Reduction Strategies in Radon Prone Areas of Ramsar

Background: Ramsar, a northern city in Iran, lies on the coast of the Caspian Sea. This city has areas with some of the highest levels of natural radiation measured to date. The radon concentration in some areas of Ramsar is up to 3700 Bq m–3. On the other hand, due to high level of humidity, damp-proof barriers should be used in construction of new buildings in radon prone areas of this cit...

Radon level in dwellings basement of Yazd-Iran

Background: Indoor radon gas (222Rn) has been recognized as one of the health hazards for human. Air radon comes mainly from basement soil and construction materials. Saghand region with rich uranium mines lies 180 km from Yazd, so the indoor radon concentration can be high. Yazd, with population of about 457000, is the biggest city near Saghand, thus, indoor gamma background radiation of Yazd ...

Radon Mitigation Approach in a Laboratory Measurement Room

Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer, causing thousands of deaths annually. It can be a problem for people or animals in houses, workplaces, schools or any building. Therefore, its mitigation has become essential to avoid health problems and to prevent radon from interfering in radioactive measurements. This study describes the implementation of radon mitigation systems at a rad...

Radon mitigation in domestic properties and its health implications--a comparison between during-construction and post-construction radon reduction.

Although United Kingdom (UK) Building Regulations applicable to houses constructed since 1992 in Radon Affected Areas address the health issues arising from the presence of radon in domestic properties and specify the installation of radon-mitigation measures during construction, no legislative requirement currently exists for monitoring the effectiveness of such remediation once construction i...
